Acknowledgements

During the creation of this course, the Faculty of Medicine at the University provided me with an office for almost two years. I would like to express my sincere thanks for this even today. I also thank the faculty for the financial resources and the Anatomical Institute for covering additional costs, approved by Prof. Dr. Magdalena Müller-Gerbl.

However, this course would not have been possible without the initial motivation and scanning of the histology specimens by the unfortunately prematurely deceased IT specialist of the University, Dieter Glatz, and his wife, Prof. Dr. Katharina Glatz-Krieger.

Special thanks go to Dr. Thomas Lehmann from the New Media Center of the University and his team, for the design, visualization, and implementation of this online course. Despite the multitude of other projects, Thomas Lehmann and his team always found time and demonstrated great flexibility to support the creation of this histology project and enable its further development.

A special thank you goes to Dr. Oksana Raabe and Dr. Henriette Franz from the Anatomical Institute of the University of Basel, who, with a great deal of work, made a supplement and expansion of this course possible. This allowed many additional specimens to be added to the course and some missing microscopy instructions to be supplemented. Henriette Franz and Oksana Raabe will serve as co-authors of this course in the future. Translation of the online course into English was made possible by Dr. Amélie Poilliot also from the Anatomical Institute of the University of Basel. Special thanks for a perfect job.

I am happy to say that the German version of this course is among the most successful online courses of the University of Basel, with far over 400‘000 clicks in 2025. And once again special thanks to all who contributed to this course.
