Plagiarism checks: Turnitin

The plagiarism detection software Turnitin is available at the University of Basel. With Turnitin all university members can check their texts for matches with other texts (originality check).

Turnitin uses millions of worldwide published articles, web pages and student papers (only if permitted by the respective institutions). The system compares word sequences (including synonyms and translations) and generates a similarity report. The content of this report must be evaluated individually or by instructors. There are three different options for using Turnitin:

  • Plagiarism Check via Self Check-in
  • Turnitin in courses via ADAM
  • an own account in Turnitin: lecturers and researchers of the University of Basel can apply for a Turnitin account at plagiarismus-ub@unibas.ch.

The UB Basel is responsible for the administration of Turnitin as well as the related trainings, consultations and courses. For more information, please visit https://ub.unibas.ch/de/digitale-dienste/plagiatserkennung/ .
