A science of brucellosis elimination
While we concentrated a lot on rabies in this course, we recognise that the conceptual thinking of a science of rabies elimination can be extended to other diseases.
In the previous step we presented an example of theoretical thinking on key elements of a science of brucellosis elimination. Brucellosis is likely one of the most important zoonoses worldwide and it is not even listed as a neglected tropical disease. It is truly neglected even among the neglected diseases.
It will only be eliminated through strong communication between the public health and veterinary sectors and comprehensive control in the animal reservoirs. This has already been demonstrated in several countries which have effectively eliminated brucellosis.
Low and middle income countries, facing endemic brucellosis may have to rethink how the control and elimination of brucellosis can be achieved. As an example you can have a look at the policy brief.
What other elements would you include and how would you adapt such a policy in your country?
