What is the message of your cell phone?
Marshall McLuhan claims that ‘the medium is the message’ (Understanding 7) and that ‘the “message” of any medium or technology is the change of scale or pace or pattern it introduces into human affairs’ (Understanding 8).
Reflect upon the message of the cell phone. What psychological and social consequences does it have? How has it changed the way we think and act? How has it affected the structures and interactions of local, national, and global communities?
