WHAT ARE AFRICAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO GLOBAL HEALTH?

1.8

Wrapping up

An intensive chapter draws to its close. We would like to congratulate you on your achievements – there were quite a few!

In the first chapter of our course, we dived into some complex questions regarding African contributions to global health.

You thought about where you are involved in addressing African contributions to global health or what motivated you to learn more about them.

The experts shared their personal experiences of a lack of African intellectual contributions in western curricula and a definition of global health. In the case study, medical anthropologist Diana Gibson provided insights into two South African medicinal plants used to treat cancer and depression which would be beneficial if they were used more globally.

There is one main question you should be able to answer now:

  • What does African contributions to global health mean to you?

We look forward to tackling the interesting topic of African health systems and health economic research with you in the next chapter.
