KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION

Tackling water scarcity – joint visioning and strategy development

The co-production of knowledge between interdisciplinary researchers and stakeholders followed four basic steps: investigating the current water situation, participatory scenario development, modelling and reflecting the future water situation, and identifying measures for more sustainable water governance.

What looks like a straightforward process in theory is quite a messy procedure when translated into practice. Experienced challenges ranged from finding appropriate synthesis concepts that acknowledged the different participants’ epistemological assumptions to problems related to different normative positions and political conflicts between stakeholders.

How would you handle external conflicts among the involved stakeholders? Try to come up with some ideas to solve such challenges.
