MS Word: Font and paragraph

For your document’s main text, you must use the “Normal” style. This is defined in MS Word as Calibri 11 pt with 1.08 line spacing and 8 pt spacing after paragraphs. These preset settings do not meet accessibility requirements and must therefore be modified.

To make the “Normal” style accessible for your main text, proceed as follows:

  • Right-click on the “Normal” style and click “Modify”.
  • In the window that appears, change the font size from 11 to 12.
  • You can also change the font, e. g. to Tahoma or Arial.
  • Click the “Format” button at the bottom left.
  • Click “Paragraph” in the list.
  • Change the line spacing from “multiple” to “1.5 lines”.

It is best to keep to black text on a white background. If you wish to use colour, ensure plenty of contrast. Combinations of red and green or of blue and green should be avoided.
