TOOLS AND RULES

Every change of shot should be meaningful
Preparing a scene for recording needs decisions on how to frame single shots. This video introduces some of the possible classifications of shots.
Consciously altering how you frame your shots during your video helps to keep focus. Each language has different expressions for the varying shots; the terms are not meant to be scientifically exact. The terminology is used in production and analysis – and it should be considered in both areas as a tool to understand how the change from one shot to another helps the progress of the narrative.
In this short video, Thomas Lehmann introduces the most common names for video shots. He also presents the second guideline: Every change of shot or angle should be meaningful.
