WHAT IS LONELINESS?
3.3
A life in three scenes
This podcast presents a fictional story that reflects on loneliness at different stages of life. It offers a starting point for exploring how moments of change, feelings of belonging and disconnection are shaped by personal, social and environmental factors.
Told in three scenes from one person’s life, the story uses first-person narration to highlight how loneliness can show up at different points in time – often linked to spatial and social transitions such as moving, starting school or changing roles in life.
The story invites listeners to think about how loneliness can take many different forms. It doesn’t always look the same, and its meaning can shift depending on the place, the moment in life or even the time in history. It complements anthropological inquiries into how individual life experiences intersect with broader cultural and structural dynamics.
